I have been gawking at the CaBezel Molds (you can find them on Art of My Clay Blog Here ) that I stumbled upon recently. Since I am overflowing with craft supplies already and am always looking for a DIY cost saving option, I decided to see if I could duplicate the molds myself.
First I made a trip to the craft store in search of buttons with raised rims in different sizes. Success! I found several in different sizes and brought them home.
I filled the button holes with scrap clay, then using Amazing Mold Putty I molded one of the buttons. It turned out fantastic! Now this only created the base and bezel part I was looking for. I checked my circular cutters and found that they are very close to the size I need to fill the bezels with a cabochon or clay creation of my choice. You may notice that the button holes showed up a bit in the mold, but I am not concerned with this since I am filling it with something anyway. You could use TLS to fill the holes, I will experiment more with options in the future.
Now, I was interested in different shapes, hmmmm...what to do next. I set the "practice" molded piece on another sheet of clay and began to pull it with my fingers at opposite sides of the bezel. Wow! I had an oval shape that was perfect!
If anyone has more ideas or options, I would love to hear about them.
